The Jaguar XJS
When it was introduced in the mid-’70s (and almost immediately picked as Simon Templar’s favoured transport in TV’s The Saint), For many it’s a marmite car, but love it or hate it, there’s no denying that the XJ-S has been an enduring design all be it with a very touch act to follow being the iconic eType
The XJ-S remained in production for more than 20 years – the longest run of any Jaguar – and went on to become a financial success for the company even out selling the famed e-Type,
In 1991, the XJ-S was facelifted to become the XJS. Its styling was smoothed out, and the engine line-up consisted of the 4.0-litre AJ6 ‘Sport’ spec engine first seen in the XJ40, and (in 1992) a larger 6.0-litre V12. These final cars were finely developed, and easily the best of the lot – production continued until 1996 when the model was replaced by the XK8.
What it’s not is a sports car – rather it was designed to redefine the rules of the long-lost art of Grand Touring; fast, silent and effortless travel – be that popping to golf club and touring to Cannes.
Maintenance and Service
There is a service book with a stamped history with last stamped entry being at 49,885 miles, there is also copious records covering servicing parts and frequent health check. The car has not had large bills associated to it.
